Course requirements

Admission to the Diploma of Sound Production and Certificate IV in Sound Production is by phone interview. Intermediate computer skills are needed as well as access to students’ own equipment. A basic knowledge of Sound Production is recommended as the pace of the course is quick. Negotiation with the Director of Studies for a catch up program can be organised.

We will be using Protools 10 as the main software for this course. Protools works on both Mac and PC though the industry standard is the Mac. Protools 10 can be purchased as a discounted student version. In addition there will be various other programs that will be looked at through the course. Most of these have trial versions. Hardware is not fixed though you must have at least a 2 channel interface that works with Protools. A condenser mic and SM57 dynamic mic are the stock standard tools for sound production though you will most likely research and invest in more as you progress through the course. James the engineer at Heliport is a wealth of knowledge in this regard and is approachable for advice. Gear is best tailored to your needs.

Student email and Google apps

The communication system used at Academy of Sound Production is gmail and google apps. You will be issued a gmail account for your course and this can be directed to your regular email account. Google calendar will have your class times and assessment dates on it and can be synced to a smart phone with reminders set to the phones alarm. Please use your ASPQ email account to contact teachers and administration.

Timetable and Contacts

The timetable for Sound Production courses varies through the year. As Heliport Studios is a commercial studio we must be flexible to their needs. In general there will be 1 lecture and 1 tutorial each week. Days and times for this will be kept as consistent as possible however it is expected that you are able to attend nights and weekends for some aspects of the courses.
